Certificate in United States Law (CUSL)

Since the winter semester of 2009/10, the Faculty of Law Faculty offers an additional education in the law of the United States of America. The course comprises a total of 16 semester periods per week and can be completed alongside the study of law (final examination).

Through the additional education the students are introduced into the US-American legal system. One focus is on the mediation of US legal thinking and the acquisition of technical knowledge.

The participants get an overview, in particular on private, business and constitutional law. In addition, courses on administrative and environmental law are offered.

The existing courses on the American legal terminology are integrated into the additional education.

Classes are held in English. Knowledge of English is required.

Students who have successfully completed the courses receive a certificate from the Faculty (Certificate in United States Law). In addition, a study semester will be disregarded in the case of successful participation in the calculation of the number of semesters for the free trial (§ 25 II lit. 4 JAG).

The study program is supervised by the Chair of American Law by Prof. Dr. Kirk Junker. The lectures, which are central to the program, are held by the professor.

Students who are interested in participating in the supplementary education can register with the Chair of American Law for the CUSL Program.
